Apple Today - 8/12/2016 OPEX (AAPL)

Good Morning,

NASDAQ Futures are up 2 with +2 Fair Value, S&P Futures are up 1 with flat Fair Value and Dow Futures are up 7 on this OPEX Friday as earnings season shows signs of fatigue among a huge victory for NVDA and a dash of economic data. Futures were down slightly in early morning and turned around just before 3am, peaked at 4:30am and are now slightly above flat as we approach the open.

Asian markets ended up. Hong Kong went up 0.83%, Japan gained 1.10% and China led the advance, up 1.60%. European markets are slightly down. The UK is flat, Germany is down 0.18% and France is up 0.04%.

Commodities are mixed this morning. Oil is up 0.05%, natural gas is up 1.45% and gold is down 0.36%. Unleaded gas is down 0.76% and heating oil is down 0.96%. While most metals are down, platinum is up. Meat is down. Cotton is up while cocoa, coffee, corn, wheat and soybeans are down.

Global stocks waver ahead of US retail sales data. US wholesale prices fall by most in nearly 1 year.

This afternoon after the bell, look out for earnings from
Yesterday afternoon, Nvidia Corporation (NVDA) reported Q2 earnings that beat expectations on strong gaming demand with a terrific outlook on VR, AI and autonomous vehicle systems and is up over 3% in pre-market. Nordstrom Inc. (JWN) is up nearly 10.5% after announcing strong Q2 earnings that beat expectations and raised guidance. Silicon Graphics Inc. (SGI) posted a profitable Q4 and is up nearly 28.5%. Planet Fitness (PLNT) announced Q2 earnings that topped forecasts and is up 4.5%. On the other hand, Ruby Tuesday, Inc. (RT) reported Q4 earnings that missed expectations, plans to close 95 locations and is down over 13%.

J.C. Penney Company Inc. (JCP) reported Q2 earnings with a smaller than expected loss this morning and is up over 1% in pre-market.

On Monday morning before the bell, look out for earnings from Vuzix Corp (VUZI) and Forbes Energy Services Ltd. (FES).

AAPL distributed $3.2 billion from the vault to shareholders yesterday, yet dropped slightly, 0.06% on low volume. AAPL opened up at 108.51 to strong volume and ran up to 108.93 within 15 minutes at 9:44am on moderately high volume before reversing course and sliding down to the low-108 area within 30 minutes at 10:14am on moderate volume and then bouncing back to the mid-108 area on low volume. Aside from a small temporary surge towards the upper-108 area before lunchtime on low volume, AAPL basically spent the next 4 hours at the 108.5 line. However, after 2:30pm AAPL dipped to the low-108 area again on mild volume and further weakened into the close on moderate volume, setting an intra-day low below 108 at 107.87 within moments of the bell. For all that "action", AAPL ended the day down just 7 cents at 107.93 and gained a dime in after-hours to 108.03.

This morning in pre-market, AAPL picked up with yesterday's close and forged ahead slightly, staying above 108 inthe low-108 area most of the morning showing small improvement as the morning progresses. AAPL is currently up 23 cents at 108.16 as we approach the open.
