Welcome to December! S&P Futures are down 2 with -1 Fair Value, NASDAQ Futures are down 7 with -2 Fair Value and Dow Futures are down 4 as we kick off the final month of 2016 with a monster-sized economic platter including Auto Sales, Chain Store Sales, Jobless Claims, PMI Manufacturing Index, Consumer Comfort Index, Construction Spending, ISM Manufacturing Index and Natural Gas Inventory, plus more - all happening this morning followed by Fed Balance Sheet and Money Supply this afternoon.
The earnings winners are La-Z-Boy Incorporated (LZB), up nearly 5.5% and Box (BOX), up nearly 3.5% while the stinkers are Guess? Inc. (GES), down nearly 14.5%, Kroger Co. (KR), down nearly 3.5% and Express, Inc. (EXPR), down nearly 18%.
Futures were up in early morning and dipped sharply after 1am where a dose of volatility caused downward spiking from 4am to 5am before stabilizing and recovering back to positive as we approach the open.
Asian markets ended up. China gained 0.72%, Hong Kong went up 0.39% and Japan led the advance, up 1.12%. European markets are down. Germany is down 0.87%, France is down 0.56%, and the UK is leading the decline, down 1.13%.
Commodities are mixed this morning. Oil is up 1.94%, natural gas is up 1.91% and gold is down 0.27%. Unleaded gas is up 1.65% and heating oil is up 2.23%. Metals are down except silver. Meats are up. Cocoa and wheat are up while coffee, cotton, corn and soybeans are down.
Jobless claims hit 5-month high, but layoffs low. Oil prices jump more than 2% after OPEC output deal.
La-Z-Boy Incorporated (LZB) reported Q2 results with profit of 42 cents per share, topping expectations and is up nearly 5.5% in pre-market. Box (BOX) announced Q3 results with an upbeat Q4 outlook and is up nearly 3.5%. Guess? Inc. (GES) announced Q3 results with a profit of 11 cents per share that missed expectations and is down nearly 14.5%. NQ Mobile Inc. (NQ) reported a Q3 loss and has yet to react.
Kroger Co. (KR) reported Q3 earnings with lowered guidance and is down nearly 3.5% in pre-market. Express, Inc. (EXPR) announced earnings with a weak Q4 outlook and is down nearly 18%. Sears Holdings Corporation (SHLD) reported a Q3 adjusted loss of 77 cents per share and has yet to react.
This afternoon after the bell, look out for earnings from Workday (WDAY), Ascena Retail Group Inc (ASNA), Ambarella (AMBA), G-III Apparel Group, LTD. (GIII).
Tomorrow morning before the open, Dollar General Corporation (DG) and Big Lots, Inc. (BIG) are expected to report.

AAPL had a stormy day yesterday, dropping 0.84% on above average volume. AAPL opened up at 111.60 to high volume and quickly set an intra-day high of 112.20 at 9:32am on high volume before slipping sharply towards the upper-110 area on moderate volume with a lunchtime bounce above 111 on low volume. AAPL slipped again in the afternoon, setting an intra-day low of 110.27 at 2:42pm on moderate volume before bouncing back to the upper-110 area towards the close. AAPL ended the day down 94 cents at 110.52 and gained 13 cents in after-hours to 110.65.
This morning in pre-market, AAPL opened lower and sunk below 110, scraping 109.87 later in the morning before recovering the mid-110 area and slipping into the open. AAPL is currently down 33 cents at 110.27 as we approach the open.
Classic max-pain is 111.
