S&P Futures are up 5 with +6 Fair Value, NASDAQ Futures are up 10 with +11 Fair Value and Dow Futures are up 39 on this epic final trading day of 2016 and OPEX. Dow looks set to land the 2016 runway at a 14% gain. Toshiba (TOSYY) shares rebounded 9.4% overnight in an overdue bounce, presumably in a bout of short covering. Kate Spade (KATE) plans to auction the iconic brand next month, with most interest expected from other big retailers. Dorsey has taken to Twitter (TWTR) to ask users what the company can do to "improve or create in 2017", including adding an edit-tweet button.

Today's economic calendar is pretty quiet with Chicago PMI this morning followed by Baker-Hughes Rig Count in the afternoon.

Futures were up in early morning, peaked at 12:30am then dipping to lows just after 7:15am and have bounced back shy of the highs as we approach the open.

Asian markets ended mostly up. China went up 0.24%, Hong Kong gained 0.96% and Japan went down 0.16%. European markets are up. The UK is up 0.32%, Germany is up 0.26% and France is leading the advance, up 0.38%.

Commodities are mixed this morning. Oil is down 0.02%, natural gas is down 1.29% and gold is down 0.03%. Unleaded gas is down 0.67% and heating oil is up 0.09%. Metals are mixed, gold and silver are down while copper and platinum are up. Meats are mixed. Coffee, cotton, corn and wheat are up while cocoa and soybeans are down.

AAPL crackled with potential energy yesterday, ending down 0.03% on teeny volume despite an early spike above 117. AAPL opened up at 116.45 to high volume and immediately set an intra-day low of 116.41 on high volume before snapping up to 117 on moderate volume. AAPL followed with a quick return to red and then popped up to set an intra-day high of 117.11 at 10:26am on moderate volume. AAPL subsequently fizzled and quickly slipped down to near the lows by lunchtime and buzzed around the mid-116 zone for the rest of the afternoon on very low volume and popped slightly into the close on mild volume. AAPL ended the day down 3 cents at 116.73 and gained 9 cents in after-hours to 116.82.

This morning in pre-market, AAPL opened higher in conjunction with Futures and hit 117.2 before dipping sharply to a pre-market low of 116.45 at 6:21am. AAPL then bounced back sharply to a pre-market high of 117.29 at 7:41am before slipping back below 117 later in the morning. AAPL is currently up 7 cents at 116.80 as we approach the open.
